AWARD-WORTHY PEOPLE
While we think you’re all amazing for tackling the Peak or Tainui trails, there are some who we do make a bit of an extra song and dance about…here are the crowned ones, with a short description for each:
Wee Doo Loos King of the Peak – fastest male on Te Mata Peak trail, 5-95 years of age. 1st: $500 cash. 2nd: $150 cash. 3rd: $50 cash.
Local Yolkels Queen of the Peak – fastest female on Te Mata Peak trail, 5-95 years of age. 1st: $500 cash. 2nd: $150 cash. 3rd: $50 cash.
The Scorchers – any person able to go Sub-50 on the Te Mata Peak trail. Bottle of Giant Brewing Co‘s finest and their name in lights.
Hall of Flames – any person able to go Sub-60 on the Te Mata Peak trail. Bottle of Giant Brewing Co‘s finest and their name in lights.
Master Blazers – the fastest lady and gentleman on Te Mata Peak trail in the Master Blazer RUN category of 66yo+, $75 cash each thanks to Shanely + Co.
Up & Coming Male – fastest boy on Te Mata Peak Trail, 11-17 years of age $100 thanks to Go Healthy.
Up & Coming Female – fastest girl on Te Mata Peak Trail, 11-17 years of age $100 thanks to Go Healthy.
Prince of Tainui – fastest boy on Tainui Trail, under 12 years of age (please note 12+ do not qualify), 1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20 thanks to Kiwigarden.
Princess of Tainui – fastest girl on Tainui Trail, under 12 years of age (please note 12+ do not qualify), 1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20 thanks to Kiwigarden.
Little Prince of Tainui – fastest girl on Tainui Trail, under 9 years of age, 1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20 thanks to Havelock North New World.
Little Princess of Tainui – fastest girl on Tainui Trail, under 9 years of age, 1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20 thanks to Havelock North New World.
Teen’s of Tainui – New in 2022… Fastest male and female teen (age 12 to 18) on Tainui. 1st $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20
We also award prizes to the fantastic first home in the following – Male Walker $75, Female Walker $75.
RACE REGULATIONS
- Official race numbers (issued at registration) must be worn and visible throughout the race.
- Free Adult Chaperones for the Tainui Course will not receive a race number or timing tag.
- Both courses will be well marked and marshals will be placed at critical points. Entrants need to follow all directions.
- ROADS WILL NOT BE CLOSED FOR THE RACE. Please obey road rules at all times and follow the instructions of the race marshals at all road crossings.
- Although there will be a water station at the top of Te Mata Peak and Tainui Reserve green, competitors will be responsible for carrying their own water/food/sun block during the race, as required. Please use ours as a back up.
- The correct course must be adhered to.
- Those registered as walkers on the Te Mata Peak trail must walk. No running is allowed at any stage. Those seen running by course marshals will be disqualified and will no longer be eligible for place or spot prizes.
- Disqualifications during the race may be disputed at the end of the race and must be presented to the Race Director in writing by 11.30am on race day. The Race Director’s decision is final.
- Please do not drop rubbish on the course. Competitors seen dropping rubbish on the course will be disqualified.
- Strictly no pets to be taken on the course.
- Toilets will be located at Havelock North Primary and the start of the Tainui Trail at the Tainui Reserve green.
- Winners of spot prizes MUST be there to claim their prize otherwise they will be redrawn.
- Any withdrawals from the event must be notified to the marshal at the nearest transition point, must return their shoe tags to the finish line and notify an official of their withdrawal.
- We reserve the right to change any part of the course route at any time.
- Entry fees are non-refundable after 17th October 2024.
- In the case of extreme weather conditions or Act of God, the Race Director has the discretion to cancel the event.
- All children 17 years and under must have signed parental consent to take part in either the Tainui Trail or Peak Trail, as directed by the online entry process.
- Event Organisers have taken all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of race entrants whilst competing in the event. Parents and caregivers retain full responsibility for the safety of their children during this event.
- There will be no child care facilities, please make arrangements for your children if you are going to be still on the trails.
- The Event Organisers, Sponsors and other parties associated with the running of this event do not accept liability for any direct or indirect loss, injury or death sustained by any party intending to or participating in this event arising from negligence or not, whatsoever.
Entering the Peak Trail Blazer
Please note: Online entries for the 12.8km Te Mata Peak Trail close 5pm 14th of November 2024.
WALKERS MUST WALK
End of story. Those seen running run the very high risk of being disqualified. It has unfortunately had to happen before. Marshals are on the look out…if you think you would like to run even a little, sign up as a runner.
Timing Tags & Race Numbers
Race numbers must be worn on the front and visible during the race. In 2024 timing tags will be in the form of disposable tags on the back of race numbers. Race numbers must be worn on the front of your shirt during the race for your time to be recorded.
Race Briefing
A race and safety briefing will be held prior to the start time of each course. Please ensure you are at the start line at least 20 minutes before your start time to hear the briefing. This will contain essential information on track conditions and any changes that may have occurred.
Course Closing
The race course will close at 12 midday, at which time all marshals will be removed. Entrants on the course are able to finish the race, but will do so without marshals, however signage will still be in place.
Prize Giving
Prize giving will take place at the finish line on the Havelock North Primary sports field, at 11.30am (or as close to as possible). Winners of spot prizes MUST be there to claim their prize otherwise they will be redrawn. Begging will not sway us. Sorry, no exceptions.
Race Start Times
- 8.00am Te Mata Peak Walk 12.8km: WALKERS from the sports field at Havelock North Primary
- 9.00am Te Mata Peak Run 12.8km: RUNNERS from the sports field at Havelock North Primary
- 10.00am Tainui Trail 3.5km: All entrants young and old, walkers and runners from the Tainui Reserve main green. (Tainui Reserve main green is accessed from either the Tanner Street/Joll Road junction or from Keirunga Road/Glenpark Place area)
Please note: All competitors will finish on the sports field at Havelock North Primary. Parking will be at a premium so if you are able to bike or walk to the start line, please do. And please be courteous to local homeowners by not parking on their grass or across driveways. Please do not park on any yellow lines in the Havelock Community Centre carpark. Drivers, please be aware of runners/walkers at all times especially when returning to HNP after the start of the Tainui Trail race.
Special Note to Parents & Caregivers
- Parents & caregivers competing in the Peak Trail: We encourage you to arrange a guardian/grandparent/ other parent/babysitter to accompany or be with children at the commencement and completion of the Tainui Trail while you are on the longer course. Please ensure your children understand what to do prior to and after the event if not accompanied by a parent or caregiver. We encourage you to work with other families to ensure that children are fully supervised.
